Barn Fire

About 70 cows and as many as 20 yearlings were killed in a barn fire Thursday night at the Young farm at 26623 County Route 16 in Evans Mills. Only a few animals managed to escape. The family-run business has been in operation for about 30 years.

A barn at the The Robbins family farm burns to the ground early Friday morning on County Route 145 in the town of Hounsfield.  Over 100 heifers died in the fire.

Paul M. Failing works on splitting 15 cords of wood Friday at his home on Route 12E near Chaumont.  Mr. Failing said his family uses about 30 cords per year, and stays two years ahead so the wood can season.
